Eligibility

The aim of the Social E-Challenge is to support new ventures led by budding social entrepreneurs.

Eligibility guidelines are as follows:

  • All team members must be currently enrolled or be no more than 5 years out of higher education (including professional schools like business, medical, law school, etc.) People not in this category can be in an advisory or mentorship role to the team, but should not be a key contributing member.
  • At least one member must be a student at Stanford (undergraduate, graduate, Graduate School of Business, Stanford School of Medicine, BioDesign Fellow, Stanford Law School, or SCPD) or a recent Stanford alum.
  • Your venture must not have received external funding or monetary awards in excess of $50,000 total prior to March 1st, 2008.
  • Ventures cannot be owned subsidiaries of existing for-profit or non-profit companies.
  • Vice Presidents of the Stanford BASES organization are not allowed to be members of any team. Officers with the Stanford BASES Social E-Challenge are not allowed to be members or advisors of a Social E-Challenge team. This is to prevent any conflict of interest.
  • There is no restriction on team size.
  • Former BASES Social E-Challenge entries can re-apply. If your venture makes it to the final round, the judges will be notified that the venture has entered the competition before.

If you need any clarifications or have questions or comments about these guidelines, please do not hesitate to e-mail us at sociale@bases.stanford.edu.
